The Progressive Socialist Party, the “Democratic Meeting” of the Parliamentary Bloc and the Justice Commission of Socialist Justice presented information to the Prosecutor on the smuggling of basic products out of Lebanon, especially subsidized diesel and flour materials, and demanded the opening of a judicial investigation and the prosecution and arrest of smugglers.
Member of Parliament Hadi Abu Al-Hassan announced, in front of the Palace of Justice, that after monitoring a series of news and media reports published in the last two days about the smuggling of flour and diesel out of Lebanon, today we present a report to the Discriminatory Public Prosecutor, and we call the distinguished Prosecutor General, Judge Ghassan Aouidat, who we trust to open an investigation into what is happening. ”
He said: “We make all the data available to Judge Aouidat and, by the way, we demand that the judiciary close its doors against political interference, and we also ask politicians not to interfere to cover smugglers.”
Abu Al-Hassan noted that the socialist delegation “will go to parliament to hold the government responsible for the smuggling file,” and called on the government to also “put the flour and diesel smuggling file into Syria on the cabinet agenda, and keep everyone involved, from the small smuggler to the high-ranking official in charge. He considered that “the smuggling file is a political issue that should be open”, and emphasized that “stopping smuggling is the first chapter of the reform that the International Monetary Fund requires addressing, as long as the continuation of smuggling exhausts the state treasury ”
