The general director of the Syrian Foundation for Grains, Yusef Qassem, confirmed this Sunday that the cells of the silo in the port of Tartous, which today witnessed a slight fire, remained intact, and that the stored wheat did not suffer any damage, and that the damage was limited to the building block and the power grid.

In a statement to the official Syrian agency SANA, Qassem said: “The silo in the port of Tartous witnessed a fire inside the silo in the main building at 12:15 am while silo staff were working to unload the ship from wheat”.

The Syrian official explained that “five silo workers suffered burns to varying degrees and were treated at Al-Bassel Hospital in Tartous,” noting that “the fire was completely extinguished and no grain of wheat was damaged at all, and the damage it was limited to the building block and the electrical network that feeds it. “

And Qasim indicated that “a technical team has been formed to assess the damage and work directly on its repair and restoration,” noting that “wheat stocks in silos reach 35 thousand tons.”
