New setback for Trump before a Pennsylvania court

Washington: On Saturday, the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court rejected a new complaint from Donald Trump’s campaign denouncing irregularities during the presidential election, thus eliminating the possibility of a change in the results.

The Republican lawsuit called for nullifying the vote-by-mail or canceling the vote entirely to leave the choice of the winner to state lawmakers. President-elect Joe Biden won Pennsylvania by 81,000 votes.

The court rejected these two requests, calling the second “surprising,” considering that it aims to “deprive the 6.9 million people who voted in Pennsylvania of their votes” that they did.

The complaint also challenges a law passed in 2019 related to the introduction of vote by mail in Pennsylvania, as the complaint deemed the law unconstitutional.

In their ruling, the judges indicated that the challenge to this law came late, more than a year after its approval, and at a time when “the electoral results are apparently clear.”

The state of Pennsylvania approved Biden’s victory on November 24, but this new complaint also sought to challenge that decision.

On Friday, a US federal appeals court dismissed an appeal filed by outgoing President Donald Trump in which it deemed the electoral process unfair and refused to freeze a court decision validating Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania.

In a harsh criticism of the arguments in which the Trump campaign considered that the latter was the victim of fraud on November 3, three appellate judges considered that there was no evidence to support the allegations of the impartiality of the electoral process.

The court found that “allegations of dishonesty are serious charges, but (just) saying that the elections are unfair does not make them so.”

This occurs in the context of a series of nationwide court rulings that dismissed the Trump campaign and allegations of fraud and other wrongdoing by Republicans that led to the Republican billionaire losing the presidential election.

And early Thursday, Trump wrote on Twitter: “They were 100% rigged elections.”

“This election was rigged,” he added, reiterating some conspiracy theories about Biden’s victory that fell in most American courts.

On the other hand, Biden warned this Wednesday that the Americans “will not allow” to disrespect the result of the presidential elections that took place on November 3.
