Ankara: Turkey’s Foreign Ministry described the French Senate’s call for Azerbaijan to withdraw from the lands it freed from Armenian occupation as “ridiculous, biased and far from reality and cannot be taken seriously.”

In a statement, the ministry emphasized that the decision of the French sheikhs is a typical example of ignoring the most basic principles of international law, legality and justice for reasons of national politics.

He explained that the decision is a clear indication of the inability of the “Minsk” group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to find a solution to the problem to date, and its lack of neutrality.

He indicated that Azerbaijan had regained its occupied lands for almost 30 years and that its operations were responding to Armenian aggression and provocations.

He stated that the result achieved by Azerbaijan on the ground was reflected in United Nations resolutions and gave concrete character to its rights, and that the Minsk Group, of which France was co-chair, had not achieved this.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry called on France to take a constructive position in the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict that has been going on for almost 30 years, in the interest of stability in the region.

He stressed that Turkey has shown its willingness since the first decades of the conflict to work with its partners and France to contribute to the achievement of regional peace and stability.

On Wednesday, the French Senate (the second chamber of Parliament) adopted; A decision that calls on the government to recognize the Azerbaijani region of Karabakh as the “Karabakh Republic”, which witnessed a war a few days ago in which Baku achieved great victories on the ground at the expense of Yerevan.

The resolution was passed without mentioning the recent ceasefire agreement signed between Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, according to which Yerevan cedes the lands it occupies to Baku.

Since 1992, Armenia has occupied about 20% of Azerbaijan’s land, which includes the “Karabakh” region (consisting of 5 provinces) and 5 other provinces in the west of the country, in addition to much of the “Karabakh” provinces. Aghdam “and” Fuzuli “.

According to the United Nations, the Karabakh region (which was occupied by Armenia) is considered part of the Azerbaijani lands.

As one of the countries of the “Minsk” group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, France is criticized for its lack of neutrality and its support for Armenia in the conflict in the region.
