Agence France-Presse said the judicial investigator in the Beirut port bombing case, Fadi Sawan, called on the Lebanese Parliament to investigate current and former ministers on suspicion of having committed violations or crimes related to the disaster.
According to the agency, Sawan pointed out that “the investigations he carried out with current and former ministers, and cast certain suspicions about his responsibility and negligence in handling the presence of ammonium nitrate in the port, including current and former finance ministers , Justice and Work “.
Earlier in August, Sawan issued a direct arrest warrant against the Director General of Customs, Badri Daher, in his first decision since receiving the file.
Daher is one of approximately 20 officials and employees at the Beirut port who were arrested more than 10 days ago, pending investigation.
Beirut Port Director General Hassan Koreytem, former Customs Director General Shafiq Marei, Port Security Officer Muhammad Al-Awf and Port Warehouse Director Michel Nakhoul were also questioned, according to the same source.
On August 4, the port of Beirut witnessed a massive explosion of hundreds of tons of ammonium nitrate, killing more than 200 people, injuring thousands and destroying much of the capital.
