Despite the praise for Russia’s “Sputnik V” Corona virus vaccine, Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot use a Corona vaccine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot use an unapproved coronavirus vaccine.

On Tuesday, the spokesman responded to a question to journalists about whether President Putin had been vaccinated with the two Russian drugs that he praised days ago and considered them safe and effective.

“We have not yet begun to vaccinate on a large scale, and the head of state cannot participate in the vaccination as a volunteer,” the Kremlin spokesman told the Bloomberg news agency.

91% effective

In August, Putin announced the registration of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, and in October a second vaccine was approved, even as phase 3 trials continued to demonstrate safety and efficacy.

Sputnik V developers said Tuesday that preliminary tests have shown it to be 91% effective in preventing infections, although final results have not yet been released.

Russia, which has the fifth highest number of cases in the world, has begun vaccinating medical workers, teachers and officials. By the end of the year, the producers aim to supply around 2.9 million doses, according to Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova.
