The decrease in the number of Coronavirus infections announced by the Ministry of Health in the last two days does not give much reason for optimism. Simply because it was caused by a decrease in the number of laboratory tests and was not a reflection of the total closure decision. While the daily check-up rates exceeded 12,000, in the last 24 hours around 6,000 examinations were performed (that is, half the rate), 1041 of which had a positive result and 11 deaths were recorded (the total deaths amounted to 911). In other words, the positive rate for exams remains unchanged and is estimated at 15%. Does this mean that the full closure has yet to be translated, given that the Minister of the Interior and Municipalities, Muhammad Fahmy, confirmed to “Al-Akhbar” that the “fate” of the full closure will be resolved today, after the conversation prevailed last week By reviewing last week’s closure, and then extending it as injuries continue to occur. However, according to Al-Abyad and others concerned about the Corona file, the most prominent indicator of concern is related to the registration of some deaths due to viruses at home, and “the Ministry of Health is conducting investigations to find out the reasons that motivated the lack of recourse to hospitals. Were these risks not estimated or were they contacted the competent authorities and did not get a response? More importantly, did they try to take refuge in hospitals and did not find a place for themselves? “As asked by the member of Corona’s scientific monitoring committee, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Bizri, noting that the results of the research will be in the hands of the committee in the coming days.
Al-Akhbar tried to contact interested persons in the epidemiological surveillance department to find out the details of these deaths and their actual number (estimated at six cases), but received no response. The importance of the research is due to the need to know the significance of this “phenomenon”, especially in terms of discovering the lack of response to patients or the refusal of hospitals to receive them despite all the “encouragement” shown by the Ministry of Health last week.
At this time, a large part of those involved in the health file are focusing on the part related to the vaccine “that Lebanon is expected to receive on February 10,” Hassan confirmed two days ago, noting that have entered into the first negotiations with the company “Pfizer”. Regarding the technical difficulties associated with refrigeration, Al-Bizri, who heads the scientific committee related to the study of vaccines, confirmed that the committee is developing proposals to facilitate technical matters. He indicated that Lebanon will continue to be in contact with companies concerned about other vaccines, “because the pressure on the first vaccine, the danger of its interruption and other factors that lead to its limitations are contained.” He explained that the Ministry of Health plans to require that around 40% of the population in Lebanon after the first quarter of next year receive the vaccine. Will the vaccine be free? Al-Bizri mentioned that the negotiations with “Pfizer” were direct, that is, “there is no agent to which the profits go, which facilitates the possibility of distributing the vaccine for free because the state does not usually sell vaccines.”
