The head of the American team assigned to develop the Corona vaccine, Moncef Al-Salawi, revealed the date of vaccination of Americans against the Covid-19 epidemic.
Speaking to CNN, Al-Salawi hoped life would return to normal in the United States by May 2021.
The senior advisor to the Covid-19 vaccine development program indicated that the approval of the relevant authorities for the first vaccine for the disease means that Americans can be vaccinated in mid-December.
Al-Slaoui explained that if the vaccination distribution plan and immunization against the epidemic go well, then a sufficient number of Americans should be vaccinated by next May, which will allow life to return to normal.
Members of the US Food and Drug Administration Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Biologics will meet on December 10 to consider an urgent license application to use the Pfizer and Biontech vaccine against the Corona epidemic.
US health authorities plan to vaccinate 20 million people in December and another 30 million a month later, and health workers and the elderly are expected to be among the first to receive the vaccine.
Regarding vaccination mechanisms, Al-Slaoui said that 70 percent of the United States population should receive the vaccine, in order to guarantee the appearance of “real herd immunity”, as he described it.
He added that “royal immunity will be achieved in the month of May, according to our current plans, and citizens must accept the idea of getting vaccinated, because that is very important.”
Al-Slaoui cautioned against family gatherings as a source of the Corona outbreak, given that participants in such gatherings abandon their caution and violate social distancing rules, and do not commit to wearing masks.
The company “Pfizer” submitted an application to the relevant US health authorities to approve the emergency use of the Covid-19 vaccine, which is the first application of its kind in an important step to provide protection against the emerging corona virus.
The application to the US Food and Drug Administration comes days after “Pfizer” and its German partner “Biontech” announced the results of the final trials, which showed that the vaccine is effective in preventing Covid- 19 by 95 percent without any security concerns.
