Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad was born in Ghasm village in Daraa governorate in 1954.
In 1978, Al-Miqdad obtained a BA in Literature from the Department of English at the University of Damascus, and in 1993 he obtained a PhD in English Literature from the Charles IV University in Prague.
He held the position of the “International Union of Students” and was a member of the Executive Office and a member of the “National Union of Syrian Students” at the University of Damascus.
Al-Miqdad moved in 1994 to work in the diplomatic corps of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in 1995 he was transferred to the permanent delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations, where he worked on various UN committees and represented Syria. at many international conferences and was appointed deputy permanent representative and representative of Syria on the Security Council.
He chaired several sessions of the Security Council and also served as Vice President of the United Nations General Assembly and chaired several of its meetings.
Faisal Al-Miqdad was appointed ambassador and permanent representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations in 2003.
On Sunday, November 22, 2020, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad issued three decrees appointing Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and transferring Ambassador Bassam Al-Sabbagh to the permanent delegation in New York and accrediting him as permanent representative of the United Nations in the Syrian Arab Republic in New York..
