He added: “This year has been exceptional, as the Corona pandemic constituted an unprecedented crisis that affected the entire world in a short period of time.”
King Salman said at the opening of the summit, which will be attended by leaders of the G20 countries via video, that “social safety nets and groups vulnerable to losing their jobs and sources of income have expanded and we have supported developing countries “, referring to the role of the G20 in supporting these countries.
He continued: “At the extraordinary summit last March we committed to allocating urgent resources and we all contributed $ 21 billion to global efforts to address this pandemic, and we have taken exceptional steps to support our economies by injecting more than $ 11 trillion to support to individuals and companies “.
He said: “We must address the weaknesses that arose in the crisis while protecting lives and livelihoods,” and highlighted support for the global economy and its reopening.
He stressed that the leaders of the G20 countries must work to create conditions that allow access to vaccines in a fair and affordable way to provide them to all peoples, along with other tools to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said: “We are encouraged by the progress made in the search for coronavirus vaccines, treatments and diagnostic tools, but we must work to create conditions that allow for fair and affordable access to provide them to all people.”
