On Saturday, ISIS claimed responsibility for the missile attacks in densely populated areas in Kabul, it said in a statement on its channels via the Telegram platform.

The statement emphasized that 28 Katyusha rockets were targeting the Green Zone in Kabul, which includes the Afghan presidency building, foreign embassies and the headquarters of the Afghan forces.

At least eight people were killed on Saturday in the Afghan capital, which was rocked by a series of powerful explosions, especially triggered by rockets that fell near the Green Zone.

“At around 8:40 in the morning, the terrorists fired 23 rockets at Kabul,” Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Erian said. He added that “based on preliminary information, eight people were killed and another 31 were injured,” and explained that “the rockets fell in residential areas.”

Cable police spokesman Firdaus Faramarz confirmed that the explosions were caused by “missiles”.

The rockets landed in densely populated parts of central and northern Kabul, including near the heavily fortified Green Zone that houses embassies and international company headquarters.

One of the rockets fell on the “Sana” Medical Center in the capital.

Maryam Rahimi (26), a nurse who was present at the time of the blast, told AFP: “The windows and tables were smashed due to the impact of the village and the wall was damaged. I asked for help … to evacuate the children at the hospital. “

“I was pushed against the wall by the force of the blow. I’m still scared and my head hurts ”.

The Iranian embassy said on Twitter that its headquarters was damaged by shrapnel, but none of its employees were injured.
