Twitter hands over the president’s official account to Biden at his inauguration

Washington: The Twitter platform gives the official account of the president of the United States on its website to Joe Biden after taking the oath at his inauguration, although outgoing President Donald Trump did not acknowledge his defeat in the elections, according to US media reported this Friday .

Twitter spokesman Nick Basilio said in an email to Politico that the social network is “actively preparing to transfer the White House Twitter accounts on January 20, 2021.”

He added that the process is being carried out in cooperation with the Department of National Archives and Records, as was done in 2017.

All tweets posted to the official accounts of the president, the first lady, and the vice president will be archived before they are deleted, and the accounts will be delivered to the new administration at the White House on the same day.

Trump, who has yet to admit defeat in the Nov. 3 election, is basically using his personal account, which has 88 million subscribers.

Like the White House account and other official accounts, the President’s official account is primarily used to republish Trump’s tweets that he sends to his personal account.

Twitter is under pressure to end the president’s conspiracy and misinformation theories.

Since the vote, the platform has added warning messages to several tweets posted by Donald Trump, who continues to confirm his victory and claims that the victory of his rival Joe Biden was caused by widespread fraud, without providing evidence of it.

For his part, Joe Biden does not use Twitter to the same extent, posting fewer than 7,000 tweets to his 19 million subscribers, compared to 58,000 tweets posted by Trump.
