Turkish forces are preparing to depart for Azerbaijan to monitor the ceasefire in Karabakh, while joint Russian-Armenian talks have started in the Armenian capital Yerevan.
The Russian-Armenian talks on the situation in the Karabakh region and bilateral relations between the two countries began with a meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.
The Russian Defense Minister stressed the need to bring peace to the Karabakh region and stressed that the task now is to stop the bloodshed in Karabakh.
The Armenian government announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will join the consultations today.
Turkish troops to Azerbaijan
For his part, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that Turkish ground forces have completed their preparations and will be in Azerbaijan as soon as possible to monitor the ceasefire between Baku and Yerevan.
He said that the Azerbaijani army has achieved a great victory by regaining its occupied lands from Armenia after almost 30 years, noting that there are talks between Turkey and Russia about the developments in Karabakh.
“We have done and are doing everything necessary to protect and defend all the rights and interests of the brothers in Azerbaijan,” he added.
