Eight people were injured in a shooting attack Friday near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the perpetrator was not arrested, according to local police.

The shooting took place at the Mayfield Mall in Wawatosa, a Milwaukee suburb with a population of 47,000.

Wawatosa police said in a statement that “when rescue teams arrived, the shooter was not present at the scene of the incident,” emphasizing that the danger still exists and asking residents to stay away from the scene.

Local authorities said that “7 adults and a minor were taken to the hospital,” without being able to determine the severity of their injuries.

Police explained that the shooter, whose identity has not been disclosed, is a “white male in his late twenties or early thirties.”

Several employees took refuge inside the shopping center, according to videos circulating on social media showing them in hiding.

“We are grateful to the Wawatosa police and are cooperating with them in their investigations,” said the mall’s Facebook page, which was temporarily closed.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Twitter that it had also visited the site.

A shooting killed 5 people in February at a Milwaukee brewery.
