The Georgia Secretary of State announced on Friday that the results of the state election, in which Democratic candidate Joe Biden won, by 12,284 votes over his opponent Donald Trump. Which means that Biden officially won all 16 votes for state in the Electoral College.

Georgia Lieutenant Governor Brad Ravensberger dealt another blow to Trump’s campaign efforts, when he confirmed that manual counting and review of all votes concluded that Biden was the winner.

“I believe in the motto Numbers don’t lie. As secretary of state, I believe the numbers we provide today are correct,” Ravensberger said, despite expressing a sense of “pride” in Trump’s support.

After his attempts in Georgia failed and he suffered a series of court court defeats, 3 informed sources said that Trump’s team is pinning its hopes on an attempt to bring legislatures under Republican control in other crucial states where it won. Biden, suspend the results and declare Trump the winner of the vote.

To be successful, Trump will need to overcome significant legal hurdles, as well as open public condemnation and co-optation of lawmakers in at least three states.

Most election experts say the chances of Trump becoming president are “very slim.” But American law has never before experienced such a test.

A source familiar with the Trump campaign’s judicial strategy said trying to engage lawmakers “has become a more targeted approach.”

What is the role of members of state legislatures?

The result of the vote is generally approved by the governor or his deputy, and state legislators generally play no role in the process.

But Trump supporters have resorted to a phrase in the US Constitution that says each state must elect its electoral college members “in the manner prescribed by the legislature.”

The Trump campaign took this controversy one step further, on Wednesday, when, in a lawsuit, it claimed that Pennsylvania’s election administration was so flawed that its election officials usurped the legislature’s authority to write voting laws.

The campaign seeks to correct that flaw by allowing the state legislature, which is dominated by “Republicans,” to elect members of the electoral college and declare Trump the winner of the state despite Biden winning the popular vote.

This is a difficult legal issue, since the campaign needs to ask the court to cancel the votes of millions of Americans due to alleged minor infractions.

Ambiguous federal law

Federal law provides another area for lawmakers to select pro-Trump members from the electoral college in the states where Biden won.

The law allows members of state legislatures to elect electoral college members if “the voters do not make their decisions” on Election Day.

Legal experts say legislators can pass a law that requires electoral irregularities to the point where it is impossible to determine the outcome and allow them to elect electoral college members accordingly.

This can be implemented in the states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, where “Republicans” control their legislatures, while “Democrats” hold the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor.

Democrat Biden won 306 votes to 232 for Trump, in the electoral college that determines who won the election, which is far more than the 270 votes required for victory.

All states must certify Official results at least 6 days before the Electoral College is held December 14.
