The Minister of Public Health of the interim government, Hamad Hassan, announced that 5,500 injections of “remdesivir” arrived in the last hours to Lebanon, and the agent will distribute 50 percent of them to the hospitals that treat Corona, provided that the other amount remains with the agent to be used in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health. He confirmed: “The sale price is 760 thousand Lebanese pounds per injection, noting that the patient generally needs six injections,” noting that “another quantity will arrive before the end of the year, and if another agent is able to secure additional quantities of” remdesivir “at a competitive price, will facilitate The Ministry of Health issues a” call to citizens “not to be victims of extortion.”

At this time, a committee affiliated with the World Health Organization recommended today (Friday) not to use the drug “remdesivir” produced by the company “Gilead Sciences” in the treatment of patients with “Covid-19” in hospitals, regardless of the degree of your illness; There is no evidence that it improves the chances of survival or reduces the need for ventilators.

According to the Reuters news agency, the committee said in its guidelines: “We did not find sufficient evidence that (remdesivir) improved patient outcomes, such as a decrease in the death rate, a decrease in the need for ventilation, and a reduction in in the time of clinical improvement, among other things “.

These guidelines represent another setback for the drug, which attracted the world’s attention as a possible treatment for “Covid-19” in the summer after first trials showed some promising results.

In late October, Gilead lowered its revenue forecast for 2020, citing lower-than-expected demand and difficulty forecasting remdesivir sales.

This antiviral drug is currently one of only two drugs approved for use in treating “Covid-19” patients worldwide, but a large experiment led by the World Health Organization last month, known as the “Solidarity Experience” showed that it had no effect or no effect on death rates within 28 days of positive tests or during hospitalization.

Remdesivir was one of the drugs doctors used to treat US President Donald Trump after he was infected with the coronavirus, and it has been shown in previous studies to shorten recovery time. And more than 50 countries approved it as a treatment for “Corona” or approved it for this purpose.

Gilead Sciences questioned the results of the “solidarity experiment.”

“Phiclor has been recognized as a standard for the care of hospitalized patients with the virus (Covid-19),” he said in a statement, referring to the brand of the drug.

He added: “We are disappointed that the WHO guidelines ignore this evidence at a time when cases are increasing dramatically around the world and PhyClure is trusted by physicians as the first antiviral treatment approved only for patients (Covid-19).”

The WHO Guidelines Development Committee said its recommendation was based on a review of the evidence that included data from four international randomized trials that included more than 7,000 patients hospitalized with “Covid-19.”
