The debate between US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden on Tuesday witnessed violent and personal insults that deviated from pre-set topics, prompting the broadcaster to boycott the two men over once.
The Republican president defended his swift maneuvering of trying to occupy a seat on the US Supreme Court early in the debate, saying that “elections have consequences” and that his administration has a right to do so, despite Democratic objections.
Biden said, however, that the late Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s position should be filled after the Nov. 3 election, when it becomes clear who will be president.
The Democratic candidate said: “We must wait, we must wait and see the result of these elections,” and considered that Trump’s swift maneuver to occupy the seat was aimed at strengthening the conservative majority in court.
This was the “starting signal” as the two men exchanged personal accusations in a frenzied atmosphere that was filled with great tension and a boycott of the other.
From the first minutes of the debate, the tension was evident, as Trump and Biden repeatedly boycotted each other, prompting former Vice President Barack Obama to turn to the President of the United States and say, “Hey man!
He also described the Democratic candidate, Trump, who is seeking a second term, a “liar” and a “clown.”
Biden said of his rival in late November: “Everything he says so far is a lie. I’m not here to prove his lies. Everyone knows he’s a liar.”

Biden continued his strong attack, addressing Trump: “You are the worst president in the history of the United States.”
On the other hand, Trump accused his Democratic opponent of lacking intelligence and being a puppet of the “radical left.”
“You have nothing to do with intelligence, Joe, 74, and you have done nothing,” Trump told the former vice president on the stage of the debate in Cleveland, Ohio.
The two candidates exchanged these descriptions in front of tens of millions of Americans who saw the debate on the screens, 35 days before the presidential elections.
In accordance with the health protocol followed by Covid-19, the debate began without the two men shaking hands when they arrived on stage, but instead directed each one to their place.
Biden, who has led opinion polls so far, sought to link Trump directly to the Corona pandemic, which has claimed more than 200,000 lives in the United States, the country with the most deaths from the pandemic in the world.
