Clashes between the Syrian regime and ISIS have resulted in the deaths of at least 90 fighters in a week in northern Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Wednesday.
The observatory stated that 41 members of the regime forces and 49 jihadists have been killed in the Syrian desert on the borders of the Raqqa, Aleppo and Hama governorates since early October.
The observatory indicated that at least 23 fighters, 10 loyal to the regime and 13 jihadists, were killed in the last 24 hours.
Syrian and Russian air forces are bombing the sites of the extremist organization in this area, according to the observatory. Russia has been aiding the Syrian regime militarily since 2015.
Since its defeat in Syria in March 2019, ISIS has been carrying out periodic attacks, especially in the Badia region, which runs between the Homs (center) and Deir Ezzor (east) governorates.
These attacks target both the Syrian army and its allies, as well as the Kurdish forces that had the support of Washington to counter ISIS.
In August, ISIS claimed responsibility for an attack that killed a high-ranking Russian officer and wounded two soldiers near the city of Deir ez-Zor.
Since 2011, Syria has experienced a bloody conflict that has killed more than 380,000 people, caused massive destruction of infrastructure and productive sectors, and caused the displacement and displacement of millions of people inside and outside the country.
And the Russian military intervention in 2015, four years after the outbreak of the Syrian conflict, contributed to President Bashar al-Assad remaining in power and to the start of a major operation to regain territory controlled by armed factions in the early stages of the war. conflict.
