Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihde Suga, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called Biden to congratulate him on the victory.
Biden’s office said: “All parties have expressed their determination to strengthen bilateral relations, as well as to address global issues such as the coronavirus pandemic and climate change.”
The Japanese prime minister said he “spoke with Biden by phone and stressed the importance of bilateral relations.”
Suga told reporters in separate remarks in the prime minister’s office: “President-elect Biden said he hopes to strengthen the alliance between the United States and Japan and work together to achieve freedom and openness to the Indian and Pacific oceans.”
Many world leaders, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany and others, had congratulated Biden on his victory, while countries such as China and Russia decided to postpone that matter until the results were officially published.
