20 people were killed in a car bomb explosion in Mogadishu

An explosion in front of a restaurant near the port in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, and neither party has claimed responsibility for the blast until now.

A Somali official said at least 20 people were killed and 30 others injured in a car bomb blast outside a restaurant near the port in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Friday night.

Witnesses and official media said that a shooting followed the blast, which covered the area with a cloud of smoke, and that the blast occurred at a Yemeni restaurant near the port.

The official Mogadishu radio stated that the explosion also caused material losses and that the police cordoned off the area.

No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far.

Two weeks ago, a suicide attack on a security checkpoint near the presidential palace in the “Wartigli” neighborhood in the center of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, according to a security source, killed three and injured eight others.

In a statement to Anadolu Agency, the source said: “A suicide bomber was driving a high-speed booby-trapped car, went through a security barrier before detonated at a checkpoint near the presidential palace in the Wartigli neighborhood.”
