League of Legends: DRX Deft: “If we played against T1 tonight, we would have definitely lost.”

On the 16th (KST), DRX took over SeolHaeOne Prince on day 41 of the 2020 LCK summer split. It was a hard fought 2: 1 victory for DRX, and with this victory they were able to secure at least 2nd place in the regular split classification. In a post-match interview, the bot-laner for DRX, Deft, shared that he feels the direction of the team’s practice is not good, and shared that it needs to be regulated.

After the series, Deft came to the press room for an interview after the game.

Can you tell us how you feel about the victory?

My immediate feeling is relief. It feels like the direction of our practice has gone in the wrong direction. There were moments in the series where we were able to solidify our lead, but we could not make the best of those opportunities. We also made mistakes during the drawings of which we could not return. I feel we need to reorganize the tier list of our drawings.

Can you tell us some of the things that need to change?

We mostly picked the champions we were good at as preferred. When we drafted a team composition that did not have frontline tanks, the enemy also drew in a similar way. That resulted in advantage for us. However, SP put together a heavy engagement team composition with a strong frontline, which proved to be difficult for us. With this in mind, we practiced playing with an incomplete team composition, which did not work for us in this series.

Some criticize that because Kindred in game 1 could not provide help in getting priority for the laners, it was a failed choice. Also, Pyosik showed doubt in Lillia’s choice, which he vowel expresses in commas before the end of game 3. Can you tell us more about it?

If the jungle champion becomes a champion for damage compensation, it’s better that we have a tank champion in a different role. We practice a team composition that includes champions who have game priority and have a champion for injury to close games. We also tried to shift the direction of our playstyle during the game, but the results turned out to be poor.

You answer our questions standing. How is your back pain?

It has gotten a lot better. I do not stand up because of the pain. I was told it’s better to stand for a long time, that’s what I do. I also returned to my original exercise routine.

You pulled Caitlyn out today. What do you take with you to the champion?

As long as Caitlyn does not die and has priority throughout the game, it is a great choice. It’s a good champion in a perfect team composition, but I think Ashe and Jhin are better than a team playing a snowball comp for priority.

Your last opponent of the regular split is T1.

If we played against T1 last night, we would have definitely lost. It seems like there are a lot of things to fix, and if we do, we can completely defeat them.

What did you think was the hardest thing SP showed in their gameplay?

Overall, I felt that her connection between her bot track and mid-jungle was really strong. I felt like their bot track made great use of the pressure of the middle of the jungle.

Finally, a word to your fans?

If we defeat T1 and we are lucky, we can get to 1st place. We will make sure we go all we got. My back pain is getting better, so I want to thank all the fans who care about me.
