Power Five commissioners met Sunday to discuss the liveability of playing the college football season 2020 this fall amid the coronavirus pandemic, several sources told CBS Sports. The commissioners will meet again Monday morning. The recognition of the highest rank of athletic voices in conferences is that playing college football as any sport this fall is unlikely.

ESPN first reported what was considered an “emergency” meeting, citing several sources. Sunday’s meeting, however, was earlier planned and not unplanned, sources told CBS Sports.

“It’s an ongoing conversation we’ve had for weeks,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told CBS Sports on Sunday night. “We talk almost every day. I’m not aware that decisions have been made.”

He added: “You do not want to believe everything you read. It was a regular call conversation. We talked about a whole bunch of different things. We would all be less than honest if we did not recognize that the trend lines are difficult and the last two weeks if three weeks have not been positive. “

CBS Sports reported on Saturday that two Power Five athletic directors considered the cancellation of falls and the 2020 football season colleges as an ‘inevitable’ conclusion of talks within their respective conferences.

“I find it inexcusable [the season will not be played in the fall], “said a veteran Power Five athletic director Saturday.

“It’s not fair what we do with our coaches and student-athletes,” another longtime Power Five AD said Saturday. “The sooner we can finalize, the better.”

Still AD wanted to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation.

A recent discussion among Big Ten presidents was reported to be the impetus for the meeting, as league presidents seem to be looking forward to canceling their conference season and hoping to see where the ACC, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC stood.

Big ten presidents have yet to vote on canceling the bankruptcy sport in 2020, CBS Sports reported Saturday.

Bowlsby is unsure whether the Power Five conferences will be united over a decision to cancel the season. “Ultimately, we have to do what’s best for our league,” he said.

The MAC became the first FBS conference on Saturday to cancel its 2020 football season. UConn, an independent program, canceled its season on Wednesday.

“I think it’s when, not when [the 2020 season is canceled], “said the second AD.”[The MAC announcement] adds more momentum to the finish. I think everyone’s medical group is telling them the same thing now. We all have the same conversations. “

More than 30 Power Five players, including multiple potential picks for first-round pick, have opted to play in 2020, with indications for health care.

Pac-12 presidents will meet Monday in a regularly scheduled meeting. A Power Five source told CBS Sports that they believe the Pac-12 is “very close to voting.” The ACC, Big 12 and SEC have scheduled regular meetings this coming week.

The Big Ten on Saturday announced that the “indefinite time” delayed a delay to Phase 3 of the exercise, which players could have used allowed pads. De Detroit Free Press reported that former Big 10 commissioner Kevin Warren would rather try to play 202 a season in the spring. The Big Ten was the first conference to announce that it would move to a conference-only schedule a number of weeks ago.
