Most of us are currently working from our homes due to the 21-day blockade implemented by the Indian government to control the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Now, to better coordinate with team members sitting in different places, many workplaces have started using Slack, a communication application in the workplace.
For those who have just started using this platform, here are some tips and tricks you can implement to use this platform more efficiently.
Use oblique bar
Slack has several different commands that help users to be more productive during chats. One of these features is the slash (/), which when typed into a chatbox will display a number of features that can be used such as DND, Away, DM, and more. This will help you use shortcuts for the functions that you will have to look for in the settings to enable.
Set reminders
Use the / remember command in chat and write a reminder along with the time you want to be reminded. This will cause the app to save a reminder and then when the time is right we will remind you with a notification for it. With this, you can also set reminders to be sent to other people in the group.
Check all messages where it has been tagged
Slack groups all the messages you were tagged in one place. You can verify them by tapping the three dots in the upper right corner of the app and then tapping Activity. This will display all the messages that you were tagged in. Then you can simply browse all the messages where you have been mentioned.
Send yourself important messages
Slack allows you to send yourself important messages so you can keep track of anything important to you. Or the fact that you want to have something important on hand. To send you a message, open the menu and in the direct chat section and touch your name. This will open a chat window for you.
Pin Messages
You can pin messages by tapping a message and then tapping the three-dot button that appears and then tapping the “Pin to conversation” button. This will help make the message more prominent and easier to notice for everyone in the group.
Reply to messages in threads
Instead of cluttering the chatbox with multiple responses in one message, you can reply to it in threads. To do this, you can tap on the message and then tap on the new window to start a thread. This will allow you to reply to messages in a thread, without the messages appearing in the main chatbox.
