On July 23, 2018, the Los Angeles Lakers signed Michael Beasley with a one-year contract worth $ 3.5 million. On Thursday, July 23, 2020, the Lakers will play the first of three scrimmage games they will play before restarting the 2019-20 season at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
Suffice it to say that things will be different when the Lakers return to the court, and no one knows exactly what to expect. But with almost two weeks of practice under the belt, they feel good about what they are going to do to restart the season, both physically and mentally.
“I think we are rested and energized,” said Anthony Davis after practice Tuesday. “It gave everyone a chance to unzip and try to regain health, get their bodies back properly, and get away from the game a bit.
“I think whoever wins will be the mentally tough team. I don’t think it has anything to do with physical attributes, it’s just more who has mental difficulties to go through just being here and not seeing your family and not going back to work. So I think we have an advantage in that category. “
According to all reports, the Lakers were one of the two best basketball teams before the season was suspended. They currently have the best record in the Western Conference and the second best record in the NBA thanks to their offense in the top five and defense in the top three.
Leading the way for them on both ends of the floor was their tandem superstar LeBron James and Anthony Davis. For the season, James and Davis averaged a combined total of 52.4 points, 17.3 points, 13.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game.
They have been very, very well together, but Danny Green does not want the Lakers to think it will be easy for them for the rest of the season due to the early success they have enjoyed with James and Davis.
“It definitely helps,” Green said of having James and Davis to lean on. “But just because you have certain players does not mean it gives you victories: we have to put it together, we have to win the victories. And everyone is starting again.
“As much as everyone thinks we are at the championship level, no one is at the championship level right now. And it will take some time for everyone to get into this: get into the rhythm, the rotation and the chemistry. Just because we got off to a good start, it’s a good base to have those guys, of course, but we have to have them playing well and on the same page and healthy, and everyone around them playing well and healthy. ”
The Lakers will begin their way back to the championship level where they encountered scrimmage against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. The notice is at 4 pm PST.
