Kovid today in Delaware: Governor John Carney announces stay on home order, indoor mask mandate


WILMINGTON, Delaware (WPVI) – Delaware Governor John Carney on Thursday announced a new stay-a-home advisory urging all residents to avoid indoors with anyone outside the home so they can deal with the growing COVID-19 cases. The order will take effect from December 14 and runs from January 11.

Counsel does not apply to Delaware in the workplace and in their workplaces and travel.

Carney is also issuing a universal statewide mask order that requires Delaware to be dressed in a face mask whenever they are outside of any nearby home. The same mask mandate, which required people to wear masks in public settings where social distance was not possible, is already in place. Children under the age of 2 do not need to wear a mask.

“I think the virus is very real, but I think what they’re doing is out of the ordinary. I think they’re just trying to control us,” said Brandi Petruchi of Wilmington. Petruchi said.

Charles Stanley added, “It is well needed with the current upsurge. It will be inconvenient, but the big picture is that I think we need to take another step back,” Charles Stanley added.

Carney is also urging Delaware schools, starting Dec. 14, to suspend individual education, transition to virtual education from Jan. 8, and return to hybrid education on Jan. 11.

Winter sports competitions will be banned from December 14 to January 11, but may continue practice under strict COVID-19 masking and social distance guidelines.

A total of 37,456 positive COVD-19 cases and 700 deaths have been reported in the state so far.
