Hyundai Kia Motors resumes production at U.S. factory-Radio Newspaper

The Kia Motors Georgia plant, which receives motors from the Alabama plant, stopped operations from March 19 to 20 and resumed operations, but stopped production for another 35 days starting March 30.

The Alabama plant shipped a total of 33,500 vehicles last year, producing Avante, Sonata and Santa Fe. The Georgia plant assembled K5, Sorrento and Telluride and produced 274,000 vehicles last year.

The Georgia plant also began replacing existing production lines with new K5 production facilities during downtime.

Hyundai’s Chennai plant in India will also resume operations this week.

The blockade of India will continue until the 17th, but the Chennai plant has been approved by the authorities to restart, subject to conditions of economic activity imposed by the Indian government.

The Chennai plant has been closed since March 22.

An industry official said: “If the final guidelines regarding the number of state employees are issued, the Hyundai Motor plant will restart immediately.”

Kia Motors agreed to extend the period of inactivity at the Mexico plant.

The Mexican plant has been closed for almost a month from 6 last month.

A Kia Motors official said: “The decision to extend the plant closure was decided in accordance with the Mexican government’s policy.”

Between Hyundai’s and Kia’s overseas production bases, Hyundai Motor’s plant in Brazil is slated to close until the 26th of this month, and Andia’s Indian plant at Kia Motors is closed.
