National researchers have suggested technologies that can revolutionize the development of new drugs and new materials.

Research on the development of new drugs and new materials and existing methods used in related industrial fields are heavily influenced by gravity and equipment when attempting to manufacture the desired crystals or materials. On the other hand, the method developed by national researchers is because it can float in midair and create a desired shape with little influence from gravity or equipment.

The materials convergence measurement research institute of the Korea Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) revealed that it has developed a method for observing the crystallization process in real time by floating a colloidal liquid of a millimeter size in the air.

Colloids are a mixture of particles that are uniformly dispersed in different substances, such as milk, blood, and mist. In milk, protein and calcium are floating in the water.

Researchers use colloids to develop skin-friendly cosmetics and medications that are well absorbed by the body. When a liquid like water disappears from a colloid, the particles aggregate and form, and you need to know this process properly to obtain the desired material.

To this end, the researchers conduct various experiments, targeting nano-sized particles to minimize external influences. However, nanoparticles placed in special containers are also affected by objects called containers. Smaller nanoparticles are more affected by the container.

In response, the researchers devised a method of floating the colloid in midair and unaffected by anger or gravity. It is the only method in the world that uses Standard Yan’s proprietary electrostatic levitation source technology.

The researchers combined the electrostatic levitation device and the dispersion device to evaporate the colloidal liquid in the air and observe the crystallization process in real time. The airborne colloid floated in the air and had a complete spherical shape, and the water evaporated evenly from the surface, and the crystallization was very uniform.

The reason why levitation technology is effective in the development of new drugs is that decision-making can take place without external influence. Liquid medications are effective, while pills are relatively slow. For this reason, global pharmaceutical companies are beginning to develop new drugs that are rapidly absorbed.

Abroad, a drug that is rapidly absorbed through the use of sound waves in the air is being developed and investigated. However, it is not easy to find the process of making sound waves the desired shape by influencing many decisions.

Lee Soo-hyung, a researcher-in-charge, said: “If you use aerial flotation technology, you can do a variety of large particle crystal studies.” “You can experiment while looking directly through a microscope. He said.

The results of this study were published in a cover story in the March issue of the international magazine “Small”.
