At two Seodang locations in Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, so-called “bizarre violence” occurred between students, one after the other. The police, the Bureau of Education and Hadong-gun investigated all students from the local elementary and secondary schools to confirm further damage. Reporter Park Jong-hyuk reports. Police and Bureau of Education officials enter a primary school in Hadong, Gyeongnam. This is because a series of strange incidents of violence took place in Seodang, a supposed boarding school. In Cheong Wa Dae’s national petition, an article was published saying that an elementary school girl was grotesquely assaulted and sexually abused by a classmate and two older sisters in a Seodang. In another Seodang in the same area, two 17-year-old male students were also charged with harassment and assault against a student their age. As the problem grew, related organizations began conducting a comprehensive investigation of all elementary and middle school students in the dense Seodang area. The police, the Office of Education and the county office will work together for about a week. In Hadong, there are 14 schools in total in the form of youth training facilities and private classrooms. The Gyeongnam Bureau of Education decided to conduct inspections throughout Seodang. Currently, some of the Seodang buildings are used as academies and the rest are collective residence facilities, and the management and supervision touches are considered to have not been achieved. Consequently, it was decided to strengthen education on prevention and supervision of school violence. In addition, we decided to conduct a large-scale investigation of school violence four times a year and assign specialized counselors to elementary schools. We plan to propose several measures, such as reviewing the transition to an alternative education specialty middle school in Seodang.
