The countries of the European Union will start getting vaccinated against COVID-19 tomorrow (27). Amid fears of the mutant virus spreading from the UK, European countries are kicking off the new year with hopes of a vaccine. Reporter Jo Soo-hyun reports. As announced by the EU executive of the European Union, the approval of the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine has become a ‘Christmas present’ for EU citizens. Between 27 and 29 local time, the 27 member states start vaccination as soon as they are ready. Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Austria have a policy to start vaccination on the 27th. Vaccines must be delivered to hospitals and public health centers across the country in cryogenic conditions, with some countries expected to take an extra day or two depending on conditions. The EU did not disclose the primary supply volume. However, it continues to emphasize that all member states are distributed on fair terms. In the midst of this, the possibility of spreading the second COVID-19 mutant virus identified in the UK has emerged as a variable of the vaccine’s efficacy. Pfizer and Bioentech, who jointly developed the vaccine, are conducting experiments to confirm the efficacy of the vaccine against mutant viruses, and we are interested in how the results will be obtained. Along with this, although EU countries started vaccination together, it remains a task if countries can receive equal vaccine supplies until the end of all future national vaccinations.
