Kirby supports smart player transfers, but there are rules regarding Cad Maze, Otis Reese

ATHENS – Kirby Smart said he is in favor of transferring players when they have good opportunities to play elsewhere, but has no control when they qualify.

The NCAA and the SEC have rules that send football players to players who transfer season unless there are certain circumstances that allow for waiver for immediate eligibility, such as post ason sun ban or graduate transfer status.

“You have to look at it from 1,000,000 feet and see what’s going on with the landscape of things and everyone in the country,” Smart told a SEC coach teleconference on Wednesday.

Smart, who is entering his fifth season as head coach of Georgia, said, “I’m really the one who thinks that if a kid has a good chance to go somewhere else to play, and that’s his choice, we’re going to give him that young man.” We want to support, ”said Smart, who entered his fifth season as head coach of Georgia. “S.E.C. In, there are rules that are about going from one school to another that I’m not really in control of, it’s not my decision, it’s not my rule.

“Those are the rules that were voted on between the ADS and the presidents, and the commissioner must uphold those laws.”

Pending transport

Smart’s comments come in the wake of the long off-fuss of two former Georgia footballers, who are still waiting to see if they will qualify immediately after transferring to Tennessee (Cad May) and Ole Miss (Otis Reese).

Reese released a statement alleging that Smart had misled him into supporting his transfer although he would complete the 2019 season. Reese cited ethically sensitive incidents at the UGA campus and with local police during traffic stops.

“I don’t think he really commented on the program (inside) about racism,” Smart said. “But I can’t comment on what’s happening (with Reese’s case) because it’s still going on with the SEC and the NCAA. I think the statement we have made earlier is very revealing. “

The UGA on Wednesday issued a statement citing federal privacy law that prohibits them from commenting on the specifics of Reese’s waiver, and “disputing any suggestion that it maintains an unsafe, unsatisfactory or racially sensitive environment.”

Having held a smart march with its players on the Georgia campus three weeks ago, the coaching staff and players have made the first-of-its-kind plans to bring racial awareness and improve community relations.

Jeremy Pruitt weighs it

Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt, who has moved from the state of Central Tennessee to Alabama as a player, has said Maze’s transfer is related to his U 3 3 million lawsuit pending against his father, UGA.

Kevin Maze, before signing with the Bulldogs, is suing for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering due to the loss of part of his right pink finger in the folding chair incident that occurred during his son’s December 15, 2017 visit.

“If there’s a lawsuit against your employer,” Pruitt said last month, “it’s probably not the best environment in the world.”

Pruitt shared on Wednesday’s teleconference that the rights of student-athletes need to be brought to light, and this season, anyway, no one counts against the merits of the players.

Puyet also noted that many things have changed since June 2018, when the SEC’s transfer rules were finally joined.

“In June 2018, it’s a very long time ago, and apparently circumstances have changed over the years,” Prout said. “Throughout the NCAA we have rules and policies and in my view, as an individual, which is a one-time transfer, each circumstance is clearly a little different. They are not all the same. ”

According to SEC rules, football players are immediately transferred to a one-time conference when they transfer to a graduate, or when they are transferring from the school, a post-season ban has been imposed.

Pruitt pointed out that there are some hypocrisy in the rule.

“The verdict of this transfer is obviously a hot topic.” Said Pruitt. “I see him as a coach. We have the opportunity at any time in time to choose another job if we want to. There are no penalties for coaching. Sure for student-athletes why one? ”

Thoughts of Lane Kiffin

Kiffin, May and Reese, the first-year head coaches of Iff Le Miss, were speaking out on social media in support of immediate eligibility.

But Kifin said he understands why there are existing SEC rules when players need to sit out of the season when they move to the convention.

“I would assume they didn’t want to open the floodgates, and people going to conference schools were worried about tampering and things like that,” Kiffin said. “But I think times have changed, a lot of areas are different now.

“I think maybe nowadays, it will be reconsidered.”

Smart said it is in meeting with the one-time transfer rule resolution law, which has been sheltered until January amid the Covid-19 epidemic, but expects it to be adopted in January.

“A lot of men have come in and we’ve confirmed that we’ve continued to play at other venues, it’s a decision that everyone makes on an individual basis,” Smart said. “But within the conference, it’s not something that’s going to be a decision for us.”

SEC Commissioner Greg Sanki on Wednesday essentially said the rules are rules.

“It’s interesting that we rely on apology requests instead of changing the rules,” Sanki said. “Rule change is always available for our membership, and we as staff support that process.”
