Kings Richaun Holmes return to quarantine after leaving NBA bubble

Sacramento Kings center Richaun Holmes is quarantined once again after leaving the NBA bubble to pick up a food delivery.

Holmes said in a statement Monday that he accidentally crossed the NBA campus line at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, subjecting him to an additional 10 days of quarantine in his hotel room.

“I apologize for my actions and look forward to meeting with my teammates for our playoff campaign,” said Holmes, who has 8 days left of his new quarantine period.

After players entered the league bubble last week, anyone caught leaving for an unauthorized reason or breaking the initial quarantine period (which included being confined to a hotel room until passing multiple tests for coronavirus in a span of more than 24 hours) was subject to league re-entry protocols.

That means undergoing enhanced coronavirus testing – tests with the long nose swab, rather than the less invasive tests players receive during their time in the bubble, plus a 10-day quarantine period in their hotel room. .

Bruno Caboclo of the Houston Rockets is also quarantined again after unintentionally leaving the bubble.

“These quarantines are the result of separate circumstances in which players had interactions with members of the public outside Disney’s front door, and are in accordance with health and safety protocols agreed upon by the NBA and the Players Association.” said the league. in a statement about Holmes and Caboclo.

There will be a financial penalty if a player interrupts quarantine once the start games start on July 30, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. Each lost game will project approximately 1% of the salary, which means that Holmes would have cost close to $ 50,000 for each lost game.

Holmes, 26, started 33 games for the Kings before the league closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. He’s averaging 12.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per game this season.
