Over the past week, there has been a lot of talk about the quality of food inside the NBA bubble at the Walt Disney World complex – some players think it’s okay, others prefer to eat food outside the bubble. Richaun Holmes was one of the first players to reject the idea that food was bad, saying he had “zero complaints”, but apparently even he wanted to expand his horizons over the weekend, and is now paying a higher price than whatever the shipping fee charged to you.
In a statement released Monday, Holmes said he “briefly and accidentally” left the NBA bubble to pick up a food delivery and is on the second day of a mandatory 10-day NBA quarantine.
Anyone who has tried to have food sent to a hotel can probably empathize with Holmes. It is difficult enough for drivers to find the hotel lobby; Imagine trying to deliver food to a place that is supposed to be safe. Holmes was hungry and was forced to make a business decision.
If Holmes began his quarantine on Saturday, he missed the Kings’ first full contact practice on Sunday. It also means that he got tired of food at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort after just one day, which is objectively funny.
Assuming Holmes is medically cleared to resume basketball activities in eight days, he will be available for the Kings’ first game against the LA Clippers on July 22. However, given how inflexible Luke Walton has been about his players practicing before playing, and how long it has been since Holmes has played an NBA game, it is unlikely that we will see Holmes on the court for that contest.
Holmes has averaged 12.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and one steal per game this season.
To update: Richaun’s mother was not happy that her son broke the bubble for that caliber of food.
You just cross the line for your MOMA’S KITCHEN! AND WAS NOT IN FLORIDA SIR! #lol @ Rich_Holmes22. I love you darling!
