Kim Jong Un inspected a new chicken farm amid food shortages

A cheery North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, had food in mind while inspecting a new chicken farm, as hungry citizens were advised to eat small turtles to quench their hunger, according to reports on Thursday.

During his visit to the farm being built south of Pyongyang, Kim called for improvements to what he described as an outdated poultry industry, state media reported.

The official Korean Central News Agency quoted the despot as saying that the facility will produce “thousands of tons of delicious, quality meat and tens of millions of tasty and quality eggs each year.”

It will make “significant contributions to the food life” of its people, Kim said.

He added that the facility is a model for modernizing chicken farms in the rest of the Hermit Kingdom, describing them as “backward” and mostly over 20 years old.

It was unclear on what day Kim visited the new farm, but the rebel regime earlier this week advised people to consume turtles, one of several small turtle species, according to The Sun.

“Since ancient times, terrapin has been used in haute cuisine manufacturing for its good taste and abundant nutrient component,” the regimen recommended.

“It has several essential nutrient components including protein, essential amino acids and vitamins effective in curing hepatitis, hypertension and other diseases,” said the Naenara Regimen official website.

“Its blood, shell and bone are widely used as Koryo medicine materials. In particular, their blood is effective for diabetes and weak children, “she added.

North Koreans were also encouraged to search for food, including bagged pheasants, and advised to drink a slimming tea developed by government doctors that will leave them “full” while losing 22 pounds in 40 days, The Sun reported.

“Obese people can now lose weight easily, once they have a hard time putting up with it,” said inventor Ri Nam.

Despite the food shortage amidst UN sanctions as a result of his quest for nuclear weapons, the outspoken despot apparently has no trouble satisfying his voracious appetite.

Its former family sushi chef, Kenji Fujimoto, has claimed that the supreme leader, who has a fondness for Emmentaler cheese, once boasted that he drank “10 bottles of Bordeaux” during a meal.

Caviar and lobster are also part of Kim’s diet despite the UN banning their import into North Korea, The Sun reported.

Some 10 million North Koreans, about 40 percent of the population, suffer from malnutrition, UN World Food Program spokeswoman Elizabeth Byrs said, according to the report.

“The long-term damage to the health and development of children, as well as pregnant and lactating mothers, was evident,” he added.
