Kelly Clarkson is tearing down her walls piece by piece amid her divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
“Kelly Clarkson Show” host praised guest Demi Lovato this week for being so outspoken about mental health before speaking out about her own struggles.
“I have similar problems,” said Clarkson, 38. “I have suffered from depression, and I believe that many people, especially in the creative world or just from childhood, have been trained to keep going and be able to manage it.”
The “American Idol” winner is in the midst of a 43-year-old divorce from Blackstock, after nearly seven years of marriage. The former share 6-year-old daughter River Rose and 4-year-old son Remington.
Lovato, 27, told Clarkson that she always admired Clarkson because she was “fearless, brave, and real like, you know.”
“I love that about you,” added the “Skyscraper” singer. “When I was younger, I always thought, ‘If I ever make it, I want to be like her, because she’s real and genuine.'”
Clarkson accepted the compliment, but acknowledged, “I’m not here all the time.”
“It takes work,” he said. “That is a daily effort to try to be positive. That’s not like a fact, like, ‘Oh, you got over it and went to a magic therapy session and it’s over. I think that is something daily that you work on and something daily that I work on. “
