White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany slammed CNN’s David Axelrod after the Liberal network’s senior political analyst criticized her emotional speech to the Republican National Convention, saying her story was being used as a “jump to a claim” that President Trump is fighting to protect people with pre-existing circumstances.
On Wednesday night, McEnany shared the deeply personal story about her diagnosis with the BRCAII genetic mutation – a mutation that puts her chance of breast cancer at 84 percent – which prompted her to get a preventative double mastectomy in 2018.

“I was scared. The night before I fought back tears, when I was ready to lose a piece of myself,” she said. “But the next day, with my mother, father, husband and Jesus Christ by my side “I underwent a mastectomy, which almost eliminated my chance of breast cancer – a decision I’m making now.”
She added: “In one of my most difficult times, I expected to have the support of my family, but I had more support than I knew.”

McEnany said one of the first calls she received from Ivanka Trump was.
‘Days later, when I recovered, my phone rang. “It was President Trump who called for me to be in control,” McEnany said. ‘I was blown away. Here the leader of the free world cared for me. ‘
She added: “Although I did not know the president personally at the time, I know him well now and I can tell you that this president loves the American people, stands by Americans with pre-existing circumstances and supports working mothers.”
Following McEnany’s speech, CNN’s Axelrod tweeted that her speech was moving, but claimed it was being used for political purposes.

“. @ PressSec’s personal story was moving, but to use it to jump to a claim that the @POTUS is fighting to protect people with pre-existing circumstances was not worth it,” Axelrod wrote. “He is actively trying to reverse the law that protects people with pre-existing conditions.”
McEnany exclaimed back, “I do not ‘USE’ my story … I proudly tell my story!”
“While this president will not take over a government that deprives Americans of the already existing circumstances of our doctors and our plans, he will provide us with good, affordable health care,” McEnany added.
