Katy Perry became vulnerable in a recent interview in which she talked about how she contemplated killing herself in 2017.
The 35-year-old pop star told SiriusXM CBC that she reached a personal and professional minimum when she and her boyfriend Orlando Bloom broke up and experienced a low album sale.
“My career was on this trajectory when I went up and up and up and then I had the smallest change, not that big from an outside perspective. But for me it was seismic,” Perry explained.

She continued, “I broke up with my boyfriend, who is now my future baby, and then I was excited to fly high on the next record and the record didn’t put me high anymore … Validation didn’t make me feel good, so I just I fell.
“I lost my smile,” Perry described. “I don’t know if my smile was totally authentic, like mine, but I was riding a smile for a long time. Which was validation, love and admiration from the outside world, and then that changed.”
The musician said practicing gratitude probably “saved my life” because if “I did not discover that I had wallowed in my own sadness and probably jumped, but I found a way to be grateful.”

Perry spoke about how he works in his relationship with God and believes in “something bigger than me.”
“My hope is that something greater than me has created me for a purpose and created me for a reason, and that I am not disposable, and that, you know, every person that has been created has a purpose,” he said.
Perry and Bloom are now engaged and expecting their first child together, a daughter, who is due this summer.

She was previously married to British actor Russell Brand. Bloom has a son, a son, from her previous marriage to supermodel Miranda Kerr.
