With about three weeks left before the release of their new album, Laugh, Katy Perry celebrated her second #SmileSunday live stream on Sunday (August 9), giving fans a sneak peek at what to expect on the upcoming release.
During the nearly 45 minutes of Q&A, the 35-year-old pop star showed new songs “Cry About It Later” and “Teary Eyes”, showed some fancy lenticular album art, asked young fans playfully about cassette tapes and even got a surprise visit from her fiancé, Orlando Bloom , and has a doll’s cup, Nugget.
‘Hello, internet,’ said a smiling Bloom in the camera, before solemnly wiping lipstick from his wife-to-be’s teeth.
Bloom’s comeo lasted less than a minute, but added some comic elements to the livestream as Perry was visibly whispered by his unexpected appearance.
“I’m not shy, but it’s like you know when you do something in your room and someone walks in and it’s, ‘This is my only time,’ ‘joked Perry, who is expecting her first child with the British actor .
Dressed in a glossy pink dress with black polka dots and large heart-shaped earrings, the singer also revealed that the Target deluxe version of Laugh – scheduled for release on August 28 – will have an exclusive song titled “High on Your Own Offer.”
Perry said the track was picked up at the start of the coronavirus lockon in March “when I felt this was the end of the world.”
The singer also revealed that a new video game-themed music video for an unspecified song could be released in the coming week.
“We used the world of a video game to tell something of our story, because it feels like we are currently living in a simulation, where we are all trying to get out of this episode,” she said.
Minutes before the livestream ended, Perry took a brief bathroom break, telling fans she had no “control over this part of my body.” “You try very hard, very heavy and hold it in,” she added with a laugh.
On the subject of pregnancy, the singer says that there are two things she looks forward to most after being born: eating fresh sashimi and drinking the “dirtiest martini ever.”
Laugh was originally scheduled for release on August 14, but has been returned to August 28 due to production delays. Perry stepped up #SmileSunday – which will happen every week – to help fans pass the time until the album’s arrival.
