Hilton Valentine, a founding member of Animals, died at the age of 77

Hilton Stuart Patterson Valentine, a founding member of the UK’s rhythm and blues band The Animals, died on 29 January. He was 77 years old. The Animals and Valentines record label, Abco Records, confirmed its passing in an Instagram post on Friday. “This morning we express our condolences to the family and friends of Hilton Valentine at the age of 77,” the label wrote. “A founding member of The Animals and an original guitarist, Valentine was a leading guitar player who influenced rock and roll sound for decades to come.” Valentine was born in Northumberland, England, and joined The Animals in 1963, along with current members (and original bassist) Chas Chandler and singer Eric Burden. Valentine quickly helped the newly formed group to catapult to star with his work on the song “House the Fa Rising Sun” – the electric guitar Arpeggio Riff, who performed his song, is now considered a classic.
