July 21 (Reuters) – Rapper Kanye West published a series of tweets late Monday alleging that his wife was trying to lock him up for medical reasons, comparing himself to Nelson Mandela and suggesting that the movie “Get Out” was based on his own life .
The intense nighttime activity on West’s official Twitter account, most of which was removed a few hours later, came a day after he launched his presidential campaign in the United States with a rally in Charleston, South Carolina. .
At that event, he tearfully referred to a decision he said he made with his wife Kim Kardashian not to abort a pregnancy.
“Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up like in the Get Out movie because I cried to save my daughters’ lives yesterday,” West said in one of the tweets that was later removed.

“If they lock me up as Mandela, they’ll know why,” he wrote in another tweet, also deleted, referring to the man who became South Africa’s first black president after being jailed for nearly three decades under apartheid.
In other tweets, later deleted, West appealed directly to Kardashian and his mother, Kris Jenner, to contact him at his ranch in Wyoming.
The West UMusic record company and a representative for Kardashian and Jenner did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.
West, 43, a former supporter of President Donald Trump, has left voters baffled about whether his campaign is genuine or a publicity stunt to help sell albums or products.
He later tweeted that his new album, DONDA, would be released on Friday.
West referred to “Get Out,” a horror movie about race relations, in some of the tweets: “Everyone knows the movie is about me.”
Several Twitter followers asked the rapper if he was okay.
In response to a tweet asking him to “save Kanye,” Tesla Inc CEO Elon Musk tweeted, “We talked about it an hour ago. It seems to be fine.”
