Neil Armstrong’s only photo on the moon and thousands of other rare photographs from the “golden age” of space exploration, along with thousands of other rare photographs, are currently up for auction.
The “Voyage to the World” collection of 2,400 photos for groups at the British auction house Christie’s includes the first images of space, the surface of the moon, the dark side of the moon, the spacewalks and the moon. Free the auction house.
The top spot is an unleashed photo of Armstrong, the first human to set foot on the moon in 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission.
According to the auction house, the photos taken by Buzz Aldrin cost between 30,000 and 50,000 British pounds (39 39,600 to 000 66,000).
“This is perhaps the greatest creative and ingenious achievement of humanity,” said James Hislop, head of Christie’s Science and Natural History in London, “who successfully landed a man on the surface of the moon and brought him back to earth.” “Looking at some of these images, you can actually get to the surface of the moon.”
The collection includes Aldrin’s “Space Selfie”.
“These days we’re so used to taking selfies,” Hislop said. “But this is a big camera that Buzz Aldrin had to turn around and show himself with a beautiful image of the earth in the background.”
“Astronauts are often portrayed as great scientists and heroes, but they are rarely regarded as some of the most notable photographers of the time,” the auction house added.
The online auction started last Friday and will continue till November 20.
