By Hollywood reporterThe new thriller, based on an upcoming Rumaan Alam novel, sparked a dispute between Apple, MGM, and Netflix, with the latter securing rights in a deal that reportedly cost the streaming platform around $ 100 million. Esmail will write and direct the adaptation of Leave the world behind, who follows a husband and wife on vacation in a rental property in a Remote Long Island area with her teenage son and daughter. The family’s getaway is interrupted by the homeowners, who abruptly return and claim that the city has experienced A mysterious blackout. Without access to electricity or telephone service, there is no way to know the truth of the situation, and the dynamics between families becomes increasingly tense.
Roberts, who previously starred in the first season of Esmail’s Homecoming The Amazon series reportedly sent the book to Washington after she became interested in the project herself. In addition to Leave the world behindEsmail is working on a couple of projects for NBC’s new streaming platform, Peacock: Angelyne, a limited series based on the enigmatic Los Angeles cult icon and starring Esmail’s real-life spouse Emmy Rossum in the lead role, and a Battlestar Galactica restart. Roberts will also meet with Esmail to Gaslit, a limited series based on the hit season of the Watergate scandal Board podcast Slow burn.
