Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez play a home baseball game during the July 4 celebration

There are few things more American than a homemade version of baseball on the country’s 244th birthday.

With that in mind, Jennifer Lopez and fiance Alex Rodriguez gathered some close family and friends and went out to their spacious patio on Long Island, New York for a friendly game during the celebration of Independence Day.

And it turns out that the celebrity couple faced each other on opposite teams.

I could more than argue that Rodriguez and his team had a huge advantage considering he is a former great baseball player with the New York Yankees.

But that didn’t deter JLo from giving it his all and rushing the baselines when he made contact with the ball in a more than a minute-long video posted on ARod’s Instagram.

Dressed in Daisy Dukes, a white T-shirt and a wide-brimmed hat, the triple threat cheerleader hit a ball at the bottom of left field that appeared to be caught, and hit a ball on hard ground but was thrown at first.

In a flirtatious amusement show, Rodriguez reached out to his beloved with an open hand and a big beaming smile on his face, after she was the last one to joke.

In the clips that follow, Rodríguez showed off his bat power by hitting a hard liner to the left, and his teammate went even deeper with a long flyball that scored a run that appeared to be López’s daughter, Emme.

Desiring to give the video a relaxing feel, Billy Joel’s classic tune Piano man could be heard playing in the background during the game’s highlights.

Then ARod took the camera and gloated over his team’s victory while posing as legendary sportscaster Al Michaels.

‘The winner of the July 4, 107 softball game was won by the Miami 305’s. They beat Jennifer Lopez Bronx, ‘he said, looking directly at the camera.

Continuing with his jokes, he proceeded to announce: ‘The MVP for the seventh time, from the University of Maine, Nicholas Silva is our President.

After handing over the MVP trophy, which was a small square box for Silva, ARod delivered his final parting words in his baseball announcer voice.

As they say in the woods, I am Al Michaels and there is always next year for July 4th. From our hearts to yours, we will say happy to all.

In the caption of the video, Rodríguez professed: “I am very lucky to spend time with my family and have a little fun.”

Then he wrote about how this year, in the midst of the COVID-19 quarantine, he has reinforced some ideas in his mind.

“Appreciate your loved ones and the time you spend with them,” she listed as the first of the four lessons.

Others included: ‘Keep educating and challenging yourself’; ‘Talk and listen to each other’; and ‘Spread love. Spread kindness. Spread joy.

López also shared some deep feelings in her July 4 Instagram post alongside the song Let’s Get Loud, from her 1999 debut studio album On The 6, playing some snapshots of herself performing on stage and when she snuggled in with American troops.

‘This Independence Day, I just ask everyone to celebrate with HIGH. #LetsGetLoud using our voices, changing the race and age voting gap, and taking everyone to the polls to vote this November, ” he wrote.

‘Thank you very much to @ MichelleObama for starting your organization #WhenWeAllVote, facilitating the registration of people. And thank you for joining us in joining to BE the change you want to see in the world. ‘

López and Rodríguez announced their engagement in March 2019.
