Like other players in the Walt Disney World bubble for the NBA reboot, JaVale McGee has decided to document his experience as the Los Angeles Lakers hope to be in Orlando, Florida in October.
McGee’s vlog, “Life in the Bubble,” began with a behind-the-scenes look at leaving his family, driving to the airport, getting on the bus that took the Lakers to his hotel, and throughout the initial quarantine period. .
The second episode of the series focuses on the day just after the quarantine phase, with the main story being the Lakers’ first practice as a team within the bubble. The episode begins with McGee leaving his hotel room for the first time, and he immediately meets Kyle Kuzma.
The two discuss quarantine and first practice, while masked, before addressing the courts. Just like in the first episode, McGee was shocked to see how far the league had gone to keep players safe.
He was also very surprised to see the practice courts, which are made up of the actual courts of the 22 NBA teams from their local arena. McGee then shows what practice looks like, requiring everyone to wear a mask unless they are in practice.
McGee is then taken to a back room inside the hotel where media availability will take place. Obviously, there is no media present in the room with him, as the entire session occurs virtually through a Zoom call.
After the first day of practice and press availability, McGee returns to his hotel room where he reviews some basic thoughts about the day as a whole. While there are probably a few things he can’t show, McGee is providing incredible service to fans by giving them a behind-the-scenes look at life in the bubble.
Anthony Davis Compares Bubble Practice With Training Camp
The entire Lakers roster is going through this incredibly strange new thing for the first time together, which means their experiences are almost the same.
For Anthony Davis, practices inside the bubble feel very similar to training camp, as McGee detailed in his vlog. “But it’s like starting a training camp just for our bodies,” Davis said.
“Bringing our bodies back into play through touch, going up and down the floor and getting into basketball shape,” Davis said. “It’s like a little training ground, but at the same time you want to be smart, because you don’t really have a long season here.”
“When training camp is at the start of a regular NBA season, you go through games and some guys are using the first part of the season to get in shape. In this training ground, you have to step on the gas a little more. “
