Japan’s Twitter killer sentenced to death for killing nine people

Takahiro Shiraishi, 30, was convicted of killing, raping, vandalizing and storing the bodies of nine victims at his apartment in Kanagawa prefecture, within the Tokyo limits, the court said.

Shiraishi was arrested in October 2017 after police searched her home for the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman who posted a suicide note on social media, including Twitter.
Police personnel were preparing for an inspection on November 2, 2017, in front of an apartment in Zama, Kanagawa Prefecture, where police found nine dismembered bodies.

Three cooler boxes and five containers containing human skulls and bones were found in Shiraishi’s room, TV Asha said, citing police sources.

Japan’s public broadcasters NHK and CNN affiliate TV Asha said the nine victims – eight women and one man – were aged between 15 and 26.

The victims posted online that they wanted to kill themselves, and were then approached by Shiraishi through social media platforms, NHK and TV Hope reported.

This court sketch drawing was created on September 30, 2020, showing Takahiro Shiraishi at the first hearing at the Tachikawa branch of the Tokyo District Court in Takayo, Tokyo.

The GG News Agency quoted the allegation as saying that Hangman, who easily translates as “Hatsangman” using the handle, was invited by Shiraishi to his apartment apartment in Zama.

Shiraishi pleaded guilty to killing the victim, telling the court he killed her to satisfy his sexual desire, NHK and TV Asha reported.

The NHK added that Shiraishi had no intention of appealing the verdict and would remain on death row until Japan’s justice minister signed the death sentence.

In Japan, the death penalty is carried out by hanging, while the date of execution is not announced until the execution.
