Evolving G Co., Ltd. will open “GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA” at Yamashita Wharf in Yokohama for a limited time starting Saturday, December 19 in collaboration with the city of Yokohama as part of the “Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary Project”. A press preview was held on November 30, and the “Life-Size Moving Gundam” was finally unveiled to the media.

Airplane number “RX-78 F00 Gundam” started in Yokohama!

This “Gundam on the Move” is 18 meters high and weighs 25 tons. The degree of joint freedom of the whole body is 24. In addition, each hand operates with five fingers. The interior is a structure with a mobile steel frame and an exterior of FRP or CFRP. All actuators are electric and combine an electric motor, a speed reducer and an electric cylinder.

Gundam moves ensuring safety by supporting the waist part from behind with the “GUNDAM-CARRIER” transport cart. Before the demonstration, it is housed on a high maintenance 25m multistage platform “GUNDAM-DOCK”. “GUNDAM-DOCK” has three moving platforms and you can approach Gundam from the front.

In addition, there is a “GUNDAM-DOCK TOWER” viewpoint next door, where visitors can view the Gundam from a height of 15-18 m. At the time of the demo, Gundam comes off the dock with the production and moves his whole body.

This “Gundam in motion” was rebuilt to verify the parts of the mobile suit that appears to be of the RX-78 type, which was discovered after the “one year war” that occurred in the Gundam world. The model number is set to “RX-78 F00”. The demonstration was also carried out in the form of a “RX-78 F00 starter experiment”.

The demo flow that was shown this time was as follows. As mentioned above, Gundam is initially contained in “GUNDAM-DOCK”. After the countdown, the mobile platform of the maintenance platform “GUNDAM-DOCK” opens, and then the Gundam supported by “GUNDAM-CARRIER” is kept forward as is. Next, following the effect of lowering a little and touching the ground, a walking movement was performed with a sound effect. Then he spread his hands and raised them to pose.

Finally, I went down once, sank once to crouch, and then finished looking at us with my whole body stretched out to jump into the sky. This mimics the opening sequence of Gundam. It is a dynamic pose that can only be done because the back is supported by “GUNDAM-CARRIER” like a plastic model.

The actual movement that will be released to the public is different from the movement that was launched this time. Also, the cockpit has been reproduced in this Gundam, but was not shown this time, so it looks like it’s “fun in the future”.

Gundam seen from the lookout

The “Moving Gundam” standing appearance and adjustment status can be seen from off the Yamashita pier site. As a result, many videos and photos from enthusiastic fans have already been uploaded to SNS. Readers will probably see those images too.

However, watching a video is completely different from seeing a real thing moving in front of you. Seeing the “life-size Gundam” move in front of you is truly an experience-based attraction. If you are interested, I recommend that you visit it and see for yourself.

Gundam from the entrance of the place

In particular, my personal recommendation is the angle overlooking Gundam from the “GUNDAM-DOCK TOWER” lookout. You can feel the size and height more emphasized than when looking up from below. Besides the main body, the “GUNDAM-CARRIER” that holds the Gundam from behind is also very attractive and attractive to mecha lovers.

On the observation deck, you can look down at the feet of Gundam from above.

There is a message from director Yuuki Tomino at the exit.
