In a meeting held on September 15, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, Sanae Takaichi, revealed that five payment services other than the DoCoMo account were damaged by fraudulent withdrawals.
Of the 12 instant transfer services affiliated with Yucho Bank, 6 companies, including NTT Docomo, were said to have suffered damage.
The summary of the observations made by Minister Takaichi is as follows.
“Last week, there was something that interested me during Yucho’s hearing. There are 12 instant transfer service providers affiliated with Yucho Bank. Of these, six companies have already suffered damage. In other words, it is not just Docomo.”
“Although re-registration for two companies has already been suspended, the remaining four companies are still in service at this stage. As DoCoMo, instead of checking your account status, I would like you to check with everyone for illegal withdrawals with extensive range of instant transfer services. It may be a bit of an exaggeration because it is not under direct jurisdiction, but I dared say it is to protect the property of many of you. “
Details of “5 non-DoCoMo services” have not been released. At this time, Kyash, a mobile wallet, has suspended the new account linking registration with Yucho Bank.
This problem is caused by a malicious third party who fraudulently obtains the “account number” and “password” of a regional bank or Yucho Bank, and fraudulently withdraws deposits.
Even if the account number and password are leaked, you generally cannot withdraw the deposit without a physical cash card, but you can use a cashless payment service that can set up an account transfer with a bank such as “docomo account”. So it looks like it was illegally removed.
Regarding this problem, in addition to the lack of identity verification of the “docomo account” that can be opened without confirmation of identity, the account transfer with cashless payment can be configured only with the password and account number, an immediate bank-side account. It has also been noted that the security of the transfer system is weak.
“If you don’t use cashless payment, you won’t be hurt” is wrong
A common mistake is “I don’t use cashless payments like docomo accounts, so it is irrelevant”, but that is completely wrong. This time, the cashless payment service was only used as a stepping stone by the criminal side, and there is a possibility of harm even if the user side does not use the cashless payment service.
