A dispute began at the end of September between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, which are facing the Caspian Sea. In this conflict, Azerbaijan’s skillful drone tactics stood out. Is there a new form of combat that will neutralize tanks with cheap, small drones?

◆ Destroy anti-aircraft missiles with an inexpensive self-destruct drone
The dispute over Nagorno Karabuff, the dispute between the two countries, lasted six weeks from the end of September. The Azerbaijani side has announced that it has destroyed or damaged more than 160 Armenian tanks, the main means being cheap Turkish drones and roving missiles flying over the battlefield. The Armenian side is said to have lost more than 50 armed vehicles in one day, which is a great loss for a small country. Shashank Joshi, defense editor for the British Economist, wrote in the British Times (October 27) that “Turkish drones undoubtedly altered the battlefield.” He says. Inexpensive drones can handle everything from aerial reconnaissance to attacks that pierce key points in tanks, and can be an innovative weapon, especially for small countries with limited budgets.

According to the Azerbaijani announcement, an Israeli-made errant weapon named Harop appears to have been active. Harop is a drone that autonomously flies towards a source of radio waves and launches a suicide bomb attack. In September, an S-300 anti-aircraft missile turret on the Armenian side was destroyed. The country has also announced that a Turkish TB2 drone has destroyed a large number of Armenian tanks. The British Financial Times (October 28) believes that Azerbaijan was trained by the Turkish army because the practical use of the most modern weapons, such as drones, requires proper training.
