Sony will launch the “wena3” smartwatch on November 27. Equipped with Suica stand, activity log function and Alexa function. Prices start at around 59,000 yen.
It will be the third generation of the “wena” series from Sony’s smartwatch brand. It will be a smart watch mounted on the buckle part of a conventional analog watch.
Suica and electronic money compatible
“Wena3” is recently compatible with Suica. By issuing and registering Suica from an iPhone or Android smartphone via the app, you can use the plane alone, check the balance, and load at a ticket vending machine. The Suica Traveler Pass is not supported.
Additionally, you can use e-money such as Rakuten Edy, iD, and QUICPay, as well as e-money and “Osaifulink” compatible services such as ANA tickets and d-points.
When using money or electronic services, the type used by the aircraft is automatically selected, so the user can use it with just one touch without selecting the type.
In addition, the aircraft has a power reserve of approximately 24 hours, so even if the battery runs out, the e-money function can be used with the power reserve.
MAMORIO function
The “wena3” is equipped with the “MAMORIO” loss prevention service.
In the unlikely event that the aircraft gets lost, you can use the smartphone app to check where and when it fell behind.
You can also use the “Cloud Tracking” feature of MAMORIO’s lost property discovery system. Since you can use search networks such as “MAMORIO Spot” installed in railways, bus operators, and commercial facilities, you can quickly notice if it is delivered to the station manager’s office as a forgotten item.
Notifications and confirmation of programming on the large touch screen
The large screen of “wena3” gives you access to various functions in addition to the clock function, such as smartphone notifications, e-money balances, activities and alarms.
Each function has a user interface that allows you to access it from the home screen with a single action, so you can quickly verify information.
Activity log function
With the acceleration sensor and heart rate sensor built into “wena3”, the app can manage the user’s daily activities. Even in daily life, in addition to exercise, Sony’s original algorithm can be used for accurate measurements.
What can be measured is the number of steps and heart rate, including calories burned and distance traveled, depth of sleep, maximum oxygen intake (VO2 max), and stress level. You can check the number of steps and the heart rate along with the four activity histories: sleeping, resting, walking and running.
The aircraft heart rate sensor adopts dual optical system using commonly used green LED and red LED. It can eliminate noise generated by wrist and finger movement and measure heart rate more accurately.
The maximum oxygen intake is used as an indicator of resistance. Usually the measurement involves strenuous exercise, such as a 20 m shuttle race. The aircraft uses the original Sony algorithm to measure daily life walking and heart rate data, so it can be easily learned from everyday life.
Equipped with Amazon Alexa
The “wena3” is equipped with Amazon’s artificial intelligence assistant “Alexa”. Information such as small daily calculations and weather can only be learned by voice.
Plus, by pairing Alexa-compatible smart appliances and remote controls, you can operate smart appliances with just voice.
Abundant functions
Also, “wena3” can be paired with the “Qrio Lock” smart lock, and it can be unlocked and locked with just “wena3” without removing the smartphone.
Also, the paired smartphone can emit a sound remotely. You can check the location of your smartphone when you don’t know where you put it.
“SUS316L” stainless steel is used for the module part of “wena3”, and gorilla glass is used for the screen, which can withstand 90cm drop impact. It also has a 5 bar waterproof performance.
Alignment of 3 types of bands
In “wena3”, three types of bands are available, “metal”, “leather” and “rubber”.
The “rubber band” can be used as a smart band on its own even if the head is removed. In addition, it is equipped with a new “end piece connector” mechanism that allows the head to be connected and disconnected while the band is attached to the arm.
To support multiple heads, 7 types of terminals are available for every 1mm from 18 to 24mm. According to Sony, it can handle around 70% of the watches on the market.
The head is designed by Shunji Yamanaka and Fabricho Giugiaro.
The head section has an alignment designed by industrial designer Shunji Yamanaka and Italian car designer Fabricho Giugiaro. Both are Japan-made models made by Kyowa Seiko.
Designed by Shunji Yamanaka
Designed by Shunji Yamanaka, there are three models inspired by “Tokyo”, “Pasadena” and “Oxford”.
A “four-in-one” model with four built-in movements, with three sub-dials digging into the bezel. The edge ring is steamed to the back of the glass to create an original three-dimensional structure. Prices start at around 59,000 yen and will go on sale on November 27.
Designed by Mr. Giugiaro with rotating head
The one designed by Fabricho Giugiaro is designed for use in motor sports, and has a structure in which the head part rotates 30 degrees left and right. Pricing starts at around 58,000 yen and will go on sale on March 12.
It also develops collaboration models with Citizen and Seiko
Collaboration with the citizen “PROMASTER”
From Citizen and Seiko, we will develop a “wena3” collaboration model with the “wena3” mounted on the head. Both will be on sale from November 27.
Citizen will collaborate with large-scale sports watch brand “PROMASTER” and launch “wena 3 -PROMASTER Edition-” with an original wena design based on the multifunctional world time clock radio. The price is around 99,000 yen.
Seiko collaboration “BRIGHTZ”
From Seiko we collaborate with two brands.
“Wena 3 -BRIGHTZ Edition-“, which is a collaboration with the Seiko brand “BRIGHTZ”, is a model for business people with a high global orientation. It will be an original design with a well balanced treatment of the elegant gold as a whole. The price is around 139,000 yen.
Collaboration with Seiko mechanical watch
Furthermore, “wena 3 -SEIKO Mechanical Edition-“, which is a collaboration with Seiko mechanical watch, adopts wena’s original design inspired by the domestic diver’s watch “Seiko Divers”. It will be the only model that combines Seiko Divers’ legacy design and Sony’s cutting-edge technology. Due to the waterproof performance of “wena3”, it cannot be used as a diver’s watch. The price is around 84,000 yen.
The future of Sony smartwatches
In this “wena3”, it is said that he knew how to enter the watchmaking market by collaborating with a watch manufacturer and modularizing it.
In the future, when buying a new watch, we want to realize that wena is included from the start, provide endless quality and design variations, and increase the value of analog watches themselves.
