We will provide a review of the latest Apple Watch model “Apple Watch Series 6” which will be released from September 18.

In Series 6, the installation of “Blood Oxygen Wellness App” is a hot topic, but the band “Solo Loop” released at the same time is also attractive.

This time, I received both the real machine and the solo loop band, so I’d like to tell you the first impression quickly.

Functional updates to the Series 5 are small, but constant improvements

The trial equipment this time is a model with a size of 44 mm and a space gray aluminum case. It’s a shame you can’t see the “6-ness Series” just by looking at the body color, which has been around for a long time, but this time there are more new colors like (PRODUCT) RED and blue aluminum. If you have the opportunity to go to the store, check it out.

It’s the same as usual in the box … but as explained at the online event, it doesn’t have a USB AC adapter. That being said, it’s fine to plug it into a PC and charge it, and USB adapters are certainly common and shouldn’t have much of an impact. It is a simple difference, but the difference is that the “Series 6” frame is actually engraved with a white logo, and the “SE” frame is printed normally.

There is nothing different except that the AC adapter is not included.

I have my own “Apple Watch Series 5” (40mm space gray aluminum case) on hand, so let’s compare it to this.

Apple explains that the screen’s constant viewing capabilities have been improved, making it “a little easier to see” even when the screen is dark.

I actually went outside to check it out, but the difference wasn’t that noticeable in the slightly cloudy sky. It’s like, “Is it comfortable …?” Rather, it seems that the time to darken is a bit slower. Either way, it doesn’t feel like a “dramatic change.”

The Series 5 is a bit darker when it’s off, but the Series 6 isn’t dramatically brighter.

So how is it working?

Again, it is difficult to say that it is dramatically different. But it is certainly fast.

Firstly, the Series 5 was more comfortable than the Apple Watch in the past because the performance of the application operation was improved, but the Series 6 is a bit more “slimy” and “squeaky”. This is attractive.

However, the difference with the Series 5 is not so dramatic. It is not enough to buy a new Series 5 just by improving the “basic functions like a smartwatch”.

On the contrary, it is a very attractive update for “people who have seen the evolution of the Series 5 looking sideways” because it is a more normal evolution.

This time, I couldn’t verify it because I didn’t have enough time, but the point is that “charging is faster” than the Series 5.

There is no description in the catalog about the battery runtime, and it seems to be the same, and I didn’t feel a big difference. However, the charging time has been shortened.

From full discharge to full charge, it took two and a half hours in Series 5, but it took an hour and a half in Series 6.

It is shortened mainly when the load is up to around 80%, and if the load is reduced to the point that “I’m worried about getting it out”, it is possible to load a considerable amount in about 30 minutes in calculation … Turns out.

Again, this isn’t something Series 5 users will buy, but it will appeal to older model users.

In other words, the advantage of the Series 6 is that the baseline has increased.

“Blood Oxygen Wellness App” for “Understanding Health”

Acid concentration in blood

You can measure “blood oxygen concentration” using the app.

Of course, the different parts of the “baseline” are also evolving. What many people are interested in is the existence of the “Blood Oxygen Wellness App”. It is a function to measure the so-called “blood oxygen concentration”.

Easy to use. Just put your Apple Watch on your arm, launch the app, press the button, and wait 15 seconds. If the hand is moving at this time, it cannot be measured correctly, so it is easier to measure by placing the hand on a desk or similar. You can view your blood oxygen level and keep a history in the “Healthcare” application on the iPhone.

If the measurement is successful, the blood oxygen concentration will be displayed as a percentage. If it moves, the measurement may fail.

A new sensor that uses infrared rays is mounted on the back of the main unit and lights up red when measurement begins. (But it’s pretty hard to see because it disappears as soon as you turn it over.) Since the heart rate sensor is green, the Series 6 has a time to glow both red and green. The position of the sensor is also a bit different than the Series 5.

However, this “Blood Oxygen Wellness App” is not for medical use. It is treated as a “wellness” function that allows you to understand your own health condition. The medical pulse oximeter is not unnecessary.

However, it can be used for purposes such as “not being sick”, “decreased concentration” and “understanding the efficiency of exercise”. If you are interested in these areas, it is a good reason to choose the Series 6.

ECG measurement “ECG” has not yet arrived in Japan

ECG

The ECG measurement “ECG” function was added in Series 5 announced in 2019. The explanation of this function is omitted on the Japanese site.

It’s a medical story, so let’s talk about it here.

Apple Watch has been equipped with an “ECG (ECG) measurement function” for some time and has been available in the United States and other countries, but has not yet been used in Japan due to the issuance of device certification. doctors by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

The other day the approval of the medical device for the software that performs ECG of Apple Watch was confirmed. This is because the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Welfare has put in place a system to certify as “program (software)”.

However, this does not seem to lead directly to the story that “ECG can be used for new products immediately”. Currently, Apple has not commented on this matter, and is in the stage of “as always, we will work closely with the authorities to make this happen.”

Therefore, the ECG cannot be used even with newer models now and no upgrades from old models have been implemented.

In fact, it is “ideal for PC users”. Solo loop is a masterpiece

Apple Watch Series 6

Single loop (color is Cyprus green). The characteristic is that the band is not divided into left and right.

Here, I would like to introduce another interesting existence, “Solo Loop”.

The loop alone is not exclusive to the Series 6, and if the size is 40mm / 44mm generation Apple Watch, it can be used if the thickness of the band matches the size of the body.

As you can see in the photo, it is a “single plate” made of silicone rubber. Since it is attached to the part of the watch, it results in a “loop”. There is no brooch.

It is a stretchable material, so you can wear it as if you were putting it on your wrist. Once you get used to it, it is not difficult. Rather, it is simple because there are no bras.

It is a stretchable material and you can pass it.

Best of all is when using a laptop. I was concerned that the clasp part of the watch would easily hit the palm rest, but there is no problem with the individual loop. Of course, as long as the size is correct, there is no sense of deviation or discomfort.

The Solo bow has no fasteners. Good news for those who were concerned about hitting the palm rest of their laptop.

Measuring tool

Apple’s “measurement tool”. Download the PDF file of the following, cut it out with scissors, and measure. You can get it by clicking “Use size guide” on the Solo Loop shopping site.

Is the problem “I have to fit my size”? To find the size, you must measure it with a roll or use the “measurement tool” published by Apple.

Then, you will know the number “what size is it” and you will buy the one that corresponds to it. Of course, the Apple store will measure it.

I’ve been wearing it for only one day and I really like it. I sincerely recommend it. Also worth considering are those who say, “I can’t afford to buy a new one.”
