The launch of PlayStation 5 is just around the corner. We just delivered the PS5 opening report the other day, but this time we finally get close to the main system content, namely the true value of PS5.
The first thing that appears in your eyes when you start up the PS5 is a more sophisticated user interface than the PS4. Although there is something inherited from PS4, the impression has changed dramatically.
A menu bar is displayed on the home screen at startup, and recently played titles and launched tools are arranged side by side in order. This point is common with PS4, but, for example, if you move the cursor to the pre-installed title “Astro’s Playroom”, an image of the game will be a large copy and the smooth BGM impression of “Astro’s Playroom” will flow.
The menu bar has the minimum size in the upper left and the content is more prominent. It is a production that raises the expectations of what you are going to interpret.
When it comes down to it, you will be concerned with startup time and other details. As a writer, there are several points that I would like to convey by touching on them. There are too many things so I tried to list the main points first.
・ Starting from shutdown is less than half of PS4
・ The loading speed of “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales” is shocking.
・ Only one game can be started at the same time
・ PS4 titles run smoothly and launch faster
・ Screenshots are 4K standard regardless of monitor
・ Remote play function can move other PS5 and PS4
・ 3D audio can be used with your own headphones
There are many other details, but I wonder if these are the first. I would like to tell you step by step each point.
Climb in every way! Check the main body first
Before we get into the main topic, let’s take a look at the PS5 itself. The first and foremost thing is its size and weight.
It is one size larger than the PS4, which stands vertically in height. Seen from below, it looks like an imposing building and its presence is outstanding. It’s heavy and it doesn’t work just by plugging and unplugging the USB. The PS4 would sometimes slip when USB was plugged in, so it’s convenient in that regard. It can be said that the console expands in every way in terms of size, weight, and specs.
Switching between vertical and horizontal installation is a bit troublesome. This is because it is necessary to install a base that fixes the PS5 main unit regardless of whether it is positioned vertically or horizontally, and it will take some time to install this base.
The base is designed to warp. By turning it to slide, you can switch between vertical and horizontal installation with one click. Placing it horizontally is as easy as inserting the base at the back. However, in the case of vertical installation, you need to take the parts from the bottom of the PS5, place the base, and fix the base and main body with screws.
Not only is the base deformed, but it is also designed to store screw parts, and I think the structure itself is well developed. Although I am impressed, I honestly think that it is troublesome to remove and remove the base one by one.
I guess the development side probably says “Once you decide where to put it, you won’t move it that often.” It seems correct to decide the place to place it with the feeling that you are holding it firmly in a corner of the room and giving the PS5 a great feeling.
Another feature of the terminal is the USB Type-C port on the front of the main unit. There are two ports on the front, the other is USB Type A. The body assembly comes with a Type A-Type C cable for Dual Sense, and I think you will use the USB Type A port mainly for charging.
The USB Type-C port is probably for charging too. As Type C is expected to become more widespread in the future, it is considered to be installed with the future in mind. Type C flash memory and devices may be listed for future use.
Speaking of what has changed since PS4, the physical buttons are used for the power button and the disc eject button. PS4 had the problem of reacting to “Pip!” And to start involuntarily just by touching it, but if it is a physical button, it will be stable. What a nice specification here.
